The Church: Some Dimensions
Matthew 16:18, “...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Beloved Readers - Kindly recall that the 5th Sunday is observed at our church 
as Biblical Seminar with the worshipers receiving an 
outline of the study and the pastor teaching from the 
floor instead of the pulpit. ( egsj ) 
A. The human group has shown a propensity for deistic worship 
throughout history. 
B. The locations for worship have ranged from the ‘open nature, tents,, t 
tabernacles, temples, homes, cathedrals, and churches. 
with sizes from a small single structure to the mega facilities 
including multi units and several levels. 
C. The worshipers embody various faith anchors, three of which are 
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam along with numerous other 
D. Christianity, historically, has been the major faith group in 
E. The traditional place of worship has been known as the church. 
F. This referenced facility is the focus for the Biblical Seminar 
during today’s worship; it will be studied anchored by the subject, 
The Church: Some Dimensions. 
A. Origin of the church - As noted in the Scripture Matthew: 16:18, 
the, word, church, was first uttered by Jesus. 
B. Definition(s) of the word church:: 
- “The Lord’s house where his people gather...” ( Smith’s Bible... ) 
- ‘ A band of baptized believers in Jesus as Lord and Savior’ 
- The facility where people assemble for worship. 

C. Conceptual levels on which the church can be viewed 
- Ideational ..... doctrines, creeds, polities, rituals 
- Behavioral .... activities therein ( worship, offerings, ...) 
- Materialistic ..building(s), land, motor pool... 
D. The Early Church ( Soon after the Pentecostal Episode ) 
- Domestic ... the converts would convene in the homes of 
fellow believers. Act 2:42. 
- Worship ..... worshiping and communion. Acts 2:46. 
E. The Pauline Impact on church development 
- Paul’s doctrinal and theological writings 
- Paul’s three missionary journeys 
F. Letters to the seven churches in Asia ( Rev. 2 ) 
“...the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, 
for the edifying of the body of Christ”. ( Eph. 4:12 ).
