Functions of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer
“But when the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost...he shall teach you...” John 14:26
Beloved readers - The Annual Men’s Day Program is being observed
at our Church today; we will have a guest speaker so I will post no
formal sermon for May 18, 2014. Instead, the outline used for my Bible
Study on 5/13/14 is being posted.

I. INTRODUCTION
A. The Triune God is the Deity of Christianity
B. This Unity embodies God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
C. The Biblical divisions for the Triune God are: Father ( Gen. - Mal. ),
Son ( Mat. - Acts 1 ) and Spirit ( Acts 2 - Re. 22 )
D. The study for tonight will be confined to The Holy Spirit
II. NATURE OF THE SPIRIT

A. Spirit is an abstract power phenomenon
B. He is the third dimension of the Triune God
C. He was present and active during Creation ( Gen.. 1:2 )
D. He certified the Trinity at the baptism of Jesus ( Mt. 3: 16-17 )
E. He anointed Jesus to preach the gospel... ( Luke 4:18 )

III, FUNCTIONS OF THE SPIRIT

- To abide with the believer ( Jo. 14:16 -17 ), to teach the believer ( 14:26 )
to seal the believer ( Eph. 4:30 ); to prove the fruits of life (Gal.5:22,23 )
give guidance in life ( Rom. 4:14, Gal. 5:16 ), and make intercession
with groaning ( Ro. 8:26 )

IV. THE BELIEVERS OBLIGATIONS TO THE SPIRIT

- To be filled with the Spirit ( Eph. 5:18 ), not to grieve the Spirit (4: 30),
not to quench the Spirit ( 1st Thess. 5:19 ), walk by the Spirit
( Gal. 5:16 ), and to enjoy the fruits of the Spirit ( Gal 5:22 ).

V. EMBLEMS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - R. E. Marsh

In his book on Emblems of the Holy Spirit, Marsh lists thirteen
different views, perspectives, or examples of the Holy Spirit. He asserts
that The Holy Spirit can assume different form without diminishing his
triune nature nor power in carrying out his purpose.

Only five of the emblems will be included in the study tonight.

- As Dove ( Matt. 3:16 )
- As Seal ( Eph. 4:30 )
- As Oil ( Ps. 23: 5 )
- As Wind ( Acts: 2: 1-2 )
- As Fire ( Jer. 5:14, 20:9 )

In conclusion, let us remember that we are under the canopy of The
Holy Spirit. Further, let us always remember the Fruits of the Spirit as
recorded in Gal. 5: 22-23 “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; against
such there is no law.” Amen!
