Topic – The Praying Church ( A Goal for the New Year )

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Prayer is a common element in the Religions of Abraham.
B. Christianity, the second of the Religions of Abraham, places major
emphasis on prayer.
C. Christ, whose promised was to establish the Church, believed in
and taught on the power of prayer. Mt. 16:18, Mt. 6: 9-13, Jo. 14:13
D. The New Testament Church, as noted in the Book of Acts, encompassed
prayer.

II. SOME DIMENSIONS OF PRAYER:

A. Definitions of prayer:
1. Secular – The act of communion with God
2. Hymnal – “ …the Soul’s Sincere…”
3. Bible Dictionary – O.T. “To ask God for a Blessing…”
N.T. “The approach of the soul to God”
B. Types of Prayer:
1. Individual
2. Family
3. Cooperate/Church

III. THE ROLE OF PRAYER DURING THE EARLY CHURCH PERIOD

( The Book of Acts which was written by Luke around 65AD)
A. An unusual noise in the church ( Acts 2:4 )
B. An act of consecration ( Acts 2:4 )
C. An act of cooperation ( Acts 2:44 )
D. An act of celebration ( Acts 2:46 )
E. An act of confidence ( Acts 4:13, Acts 1:14 )
F. The result was companionship with Jesus ( Acts 4:13 )
